History[ edit ] Bequest by Isaac Royall and founding[ edit ] Harvard Law School’s founding is traced to the establishment of a “law department” at Harvard in The Royall family coat-of-arms , which shows three stacked wheat sheaves, was adopted as the school crest in , topped with the university motto Veritas, Latin “truth”. For a while, the school was called “Dane Law School. Ashmun, son of Eli Porter Ashmun and brother of George Ashmun , accepted a professorship and closed his Northampton Law School , with many of his students following him to Harvard. Enrollment remained low through the 19th century as university legal education was considered to be of little added benefit to apprenticeships in legal practice. After first trying lowered admissions standards, in HLS eliminated admissions requirements entirely. At Harvard, Langdell also developed the case method of teaching law, now the dominant pedagogical model at U. Langdell’s notion that law could be studied as a “science” gave university legal education a reason for being distinct from vocational preparation. Critics at first defended the old lecture method because it was faster and cheaper and made fewer demands on faculty and students. Advocates said the case method had a sounder theoretical basis in scientific research and the inductive method.

They are not all precisely the same, but many are used interchangeably. They are all names for what may be the most exciting new area of computer science and engineering — the space where humans and computers come together. UE works to coordinate these elements to allow for the best possible interaction by users. And while some companies are beginning to develop in-house training and internships in usability, many forward-thinking colleges and universities are taking up the task of preparing students for work in user design.
These programs may be housed in computer science, psychology, engineering, or more surprising places — wherever there are a few faculty members ready to take it on. Most grad programs are intended for those with basic computer programming or coding knowledge, but being an emerging, interdisciplinary field, UX programs are filled with graduates from all kinds of majors, from business to engineering to the humanities.

Processes which restore, repair and sustain the resources and systems essential to the continued health of the many inhabitants of the planet are not functioning as they were intended. These interruptions of the natural cycles and resources have caused detrimental consequences. Now the inhabitants of the planet are relying on expertly trained earth scientists to discover solutions to these problems and effective methods to repair the existing damage already causing environmental hazards.
The methods of performing the tasks of manufacturing, waste disposal, of controlling chemical emissions, of developing property without damaging the ecology of the area and nearly every other task associated with the various business industries are affected by these necessary changes. And it is the earth scientists on whom businesses, governments and citizens are relying to direct and implement these changes. Researchers and academics in the earth science fields continue the quest for understanding and advancement; striving to discover solutions for current concerns and to predict potential future issues and events.
A bachelor degree program would scarcely graze the surface of what is necessary to discover and effect the changes necessary to protect and restore the earth and its resources.
